Main Parachute

Duane Wilkey looks over the packing of the main parachute as Pat Easter gets his camera ready.

Nose Cone Fit

Putting the nose cone on the main tube section. Mike Jenkins (who would later get his Level 3) and Dan Ledenican look over the work.

Shear Pin Install

Duane Wilkey, Mike Jenkins, Les Kramer and Dan Ledenican watch as I install the nose cone shear pins

Booster

Dan Ledenican helps mate the drogue section to the booster section.

Rail Load

Dan Ledenican and Les Kramer help guide the rocket on the rail.

HyperTek M956

The business end of the rocket waiting to move down the rail. You can see one of the igniter wires running from the fuel grain.

Fill Stem

The "M" fill stem has been inserted into the motor. You can also see the two igniter wires. One was taped to the grain and the other was on the fill stem. Pratt Hobbies supplied the ground support equipment including the BFV fill valve.

Electronics

The altimeters have been armed and I'm listening for the "beeps".

Nitrous Setup

Ivan Galysh gets the nitrous ready as Les, Duane and Chuck Rudy look over the pad.

Nitrous Warmimg

Yes! Warming. The nitrous tank had been on ice and the pressure was a little bit low. We took turns sitting on the tank to warm it up!

Ready

The rocket is on the pad and ready to go!

Vent Check

Lloyd Wood checks to see if we have a good nitrous vent. With the BFV fill valve from Pratt Hobbies, the 3500cc tank was filled in under 3 minutes.

Launch

Launch! HyperTeK M956

Gaining Speed

The rocket moved off the pad pretty good and started the climb.

Pitch

At about 1000 feet a slight pitch into the wind

Apogee Event

At 4,496 feet, the booster separates from the drogue section.

Falling

The components continue to descend

Main Event

The main charge has deployed the nose cone and the main parachute is catching some air.

Main Inflates

The SkyAngle Cert 3 XXL inflates

Recovery Complete

The rocket falls at a gentle rate (almost vertical) back to the ground.

Altitude vs. Time plot from the PerfectFlite MAWD Altimeter

Steve Hall, a Tri-City Sky Buster, took the MAWD data and used MathCAD to plot the speed in feet per second over the same time period.
